    Exclamation Out of the game.

    Hello everyone.

Just letting the Forum users know that I am officially out of the game. For now anyway, until I decide what path to take.

I started at "****** Refrigeration" with promise of traing in a specialised industry, however they just wanted a government subsidised factory worker. I fought my way to research and development and was placed under an incompedent ****** who's service stories and knowledge were nothing but glorified bull****.
All the internal politics and backstabbing have seen one of their projects go to sht, with no help from me. Thats Karma, lol.

I left their employment to work in the AC industry as a third yr apprentice with ***********, but the promises they offered were once again....BULLSHT....
I was thrown on the install crew once a new tradesman entered the company, and thats fine, but the manager, a bitter woman, who has personal anger management issues, did not put any responsibility on me as the most qualified in that team, unless it went to ****, then I was responsible. I won't even go into the enviromental crimes which I commited under duress for this mob...sht.

DET and my Apprenticeship service are friggn useless ******s who are only involved with these organisations for the dollars.

I have cancelled my apprenticeship and am looking towards undertaking 5yrs at university to become an engineer. Unless there is an employer who has the capability to train me to be a technician. I refuse to be a medioca tradie, especially with the banks talking reseccion in Australia and a giant influx of wankr tradies who cut every corner and undercut the guys who do the job right.

Globalisation is the greatest thing that has happened to the worlds economies......right...

Anyway thats me "venting", I hope I'll get back into the trade but we shall see.

Oh this isn't a stab at the whole industry, just what I've experienced so far.

    Regards
    your friend

Well do hang in there. This can be a tough business on new people. Some get lucky and fall into a nice employment prospect, other it seems have to work their tails off and put up with a whole lot of the stuff you kept XXXX'ing out!

You are not the first one to go through this, so don't quite trying.

If it makes you feel better I can tell you about one of my past problems. Let's just say the phone rang one day with a call from a customer wanting to know where their new chillers were (I worked for a custom manufacturer at the time).

I told her the truth and said some of the parts had not even been ordered yet. With that out of the bag, she told me by telling her the truth it would probably cost me my job. It did, and I still found another job.

Needless to say, the fireworks were quite interesting the next day after her second phone call.

Best of luck to you and don't feel you have to leave RE.

    Best Regards,

We dont want to lose you Dogma, but I understand what you say. I left the industry as well, bit the bullet, endured the agony of going back to University, Im now a lawyer.

As Jam Cool says, its in your blood, you can contribute to our industry in other ways.

    G'day Dogma

I feel for your situation, but sometimes as an apprentice you will have to put up with crap like this.

Personally if I was you I would have bit my tongue for another year until I completed the apprenticeship.

You are a much more valuable commodity once you are qualified, then if you are unsatisfied leave and look for greener pastures.

You will probably learn more when you are out of your apprenticeship and are faced with repair work with no one except yourself there to fix the equipment. In my experience thats when you do the most learning.

I did a lot of preventative maintenance in my apprenticeship.(Including washing hundreds of filters). Most of my learning was done after the maintenance was complete, I used to examine the equipment and see how each system operated, sometimes change controller settings to see how the system reacted.(Although this got me into trouble a couple of times, especially the time when a 15 storey building had the entire staff nearly walk out because I had the supply air fans off for half an hour ). Most of the other techs at the company would finish their maintenance and then sneak off home. Anyway I digress.......

Get another job and if it is crap you only have to put up with it for another year and you have your papers, and make the most of the opportunities you get.

    Good luck

It's not a light, it's the foreman coming with a torch to see what's taking you so long to finish the job.

Good luck with your new adventures Dogma.

    Re: Out of the game.

Dogma, it is something that gets into your blood. You will know if you have it in your blood or not.

Refrigeration is not a simple trade. It is all other trades assembled around refrigeration and to some degree, air conditioning.

I often wondered why, in the USA, the refrigeration people have contracts on new construction with the owner of the company... instead of with the general contractor... the group that builds the building, including electrical, sprinklers, plumbing, walls, and the A/C,

I tease myself that the answer is that refrigeration is so much an important trade, that the owner will not let the general contractor dictate the quality of installation.

This is one reason I feel it is in my blood.

Old refrigeration engineers never die... they just slowly lose their charge.

Young ones deserve to be fully charged, and with the proper stuff.

    Re: Out of the game.

Thnks for the words of wisdom guys. And thanks ABE. Strange thing mate, before I had read your reply I'd recieved papers from the uni for tertiary prep for Business Law.

I am hoping I can finnish my trade, someday. but for now I just need to get out, clear my head, and find that light.

The custody issues with my ex were adding too many stresses to work, so something was bouond to give.
Turns out it was my sanity. lol.

Oh well, might take me a while but I think I'll bounce back. Hopefully with a rival company.

Cheers fellas. I'll check back in one day when I'm sorted.

Merry Christmas to you all and my best wishes for a prosperous new year.

    Kind Regards

    Dogma

You can have my private e mail if you wish. Just send me an IM. I can assist you on Business Law if theres any parts you dont understand or need help with.

Keep in touch with RE. I financed my education by working in refrigeration and doing AC installs. In fact I still get a buzz doing installs.

Refrigeration teaches you a lot of skills. It teaches you how to plan, organise, costs, people relationship skills, psychology skills.....

    Its not only changing parts!!

All these accumulative skills have helped me in the wider sense.

Good luck with UNI, you will not regret it, yes , it will drive you to the limits, but then you will have a wider scope of jobs to apply for when you graduate.

All the best for New year

Advertising yourself on RE is against the rules, but if you had filled out your "Location" properly in your user CP, you might have had a better chance of an offer.
