Compressor Cooling
Now I know that hermetic compressors are cooled by the incoming gas from the suction, but how are semi-hermetic compressors cooled, as when I have seen them apart the gas only passes through the head of the compressor, and no where around the windings
Please help me understand

Re: Compressor Cooling
The condensor fan usually blows across the compressor thus keeping it cool.

Re: Compressor Cooling
Hi Takeshi,
You must be talking about small, low temp. compressors.
These machines are designed for high motor temp.
C an go as high as 80°C.

Re: Compressor Cooling
Really? Thanks for clearing that up
I knew the condensor fan helped - but I thought that this wouldn't really be efficient enough? But I guess it is
And yeah I'm on about 1/2Hp - 10HP compressors, like Prestcold's etc

Re: Compressor Cooling
Generally the semi hermetics have either Air Cooled Compressors or Gas Cooled Compressors. For larger units you will require additional fans for the air cooled types and with these you can attain a low temperature.

Re: Compressor Cooling
I usually see body cooling fans on that style of compressor if it's a low temp high compression machine. -10 saturated and lower.

Re: Compressor Cooling
Insulation Class H allows the motor windings to operate at upto 130 degrees conductor temp without a problem
