J B Weld evaporator coils
Hi,
I have recently repaired new evaporator coils on a dairy case with J B Weld. The repair was made where the aluminum meets the copper. I understand the correct plan of action would have been to remove the coils and solder them. Due to down time issues I chose to use J B Weld. Does or can JB Weld contaminate a refrigeration system?? Another refrigeration company claims that it can. Any incite would be greatly appreciated.

Ive used JB Weld on varouis repairs but never a coil, not really sure if it would contaminate the refrigerant.

I have used heat activated epoxy designed for repair of evaporators and have not had a problem with contamination.
Come to think of it I have also used Devcon epoxy metal when I was in an R&D lab in refrigeration system when we were doing modifications to compressor parts to house sensor and have not had problems with it reacting with R717, R12, R22 or R502 (really dating myself). It should be okay with hydrocarbons, but I am not sure of oils such as POE or PAG.
