Question: How do these bits fit together?

Answer: Check the wiring diagram that came with the starter kit.

The uncles are not serious, don't worry. Personally I never look at letters: S,W,R etc or the wires colours - always use multimeter to replace, or put a new current relay. Make sure that current is constantly supplied to the working winding of the motor through the relay's coil. But through its NO contact is being switched to the capacitor starting winding during the starting moment. If you have not yet switched your relay to your motor, give me know, I will tell you how to find where is which winding and how make the whole scheme.
