Anyone fancy installing 2 AC units in Bedford?
I'm not an AC engineer - into IT myself..
Anyway, I bought two AC units from airconditioningcentre.com on the basis that their "recommended" installer would do the install...
4 weeks later he comes, decides he doesn't want to do a 1st floor bedroom install (even though we agreed) - heck, he didn't even have ladders long enough.. and he leaves without any further discussion.
I'd love to name and shame him, but doubt it's in the rules of this forum.
So, anyone fancy fitting two 18k btu split air conditioners? one downstairs, one upstairs? .. just the drilling, laying pipes, sorting out the vac (although it's a DIY unit).
cheers
Roy

Hi Stevo
They are the Space KFR -51GW/L - they're the same units as the Fairland ones.
I'm going to sort out the power as they are both 13A units (drawing 8A peak so I was told) and I was going to put them both on the upstairs ring mains which is quiet and possibly install a new circuit for them if needed.
Cheers

I doubt if a 13 amp supply is adequate ! I would recommend you check the required power supply first.Last edited by Brian_UK; 22-07-2006 at 11:22 PM. Reason: Tidy up "quoted" section

Yep, thats the one.
I take the point about power, and probably will run the required circuit as I'm qualified to do electrics... (although as there is no load on the upstairs ring, it will suffice)

20amp MCB in your board for each system, feed to disconnector, (2.5mm), then to your outside unit.
Then if its like my Daikin, three core and earth between outside and inside units. 1.5mm unless your run is over 10 metres when 2.5mm is best to avoid voltage drop.
You can use armoured cable, or PVC if protected agains physical damage and UV damage from the sun.
They are advertised as will run off a 13amp plug, they will but, not recommended.

Crikey! "DIY it-don't try it", looks like everyone's an AC hero, and we (not me personally) guys of the Ref & AC encourage it.

I have other projects on as well, so not in a rush (despite the heat).

I had 2 requests yesterday from people buying equipment and wanting it installing, the only problem is they think that they can get them installed for £50. Some one also told me yesterday that Focus DIY are now selling Fujitsu 9000 btu splits.

The customer would be right to question either trade about their relevant qualifications, as per you would with a 'Corgi' installer.Last edited by mick2me; 25-07-2006 at 11:26 AM.
