Anyone fancy installing 2 AC units in Bedford?

I'm not an AC engineer - into IT myself..
Anyway, I bought two AC units from airconditioningcentre.com on the basis that their "recommended" installer would do the install...
4 weeks later he comes, decides he doesn't want to do a 1st floor bedroom install (even though we agreed) - heck, he didn't even have ladders long enough.. and he leaves without any further discussion.
I'd love to name and shame him, but doubt it's in the rules of this forum.

So, anyone fancy fitting two 18k btu split air conditioners? one downstairs, one upstairs? .. just the drilling, laying pipes, sorting out the vac (although it's a DIY unit).

    cheers
    Roy

Hi Roy, What units are they? do you have the power sorted?

    Hi Stevo

They are the Space KFR -51GW/L - they're the same units as the Fairland ones.

I'm going to sort out the power as they are both 13A units (drawing 8A peak so I was told) and I was going to put them both on the upstairs ring mains which is quiet and possibly install a new circuit for them if needed.

    Cheers

Had a quick look! is this the model ?http://www.kjglobal.co.uk/acatalog/Air_con.html
I doubt if a 13 amp supply is adequate ! I would recommend you check the required power supply first.

    Yep, thats the one.
I take the point about power, and probably will run the required circuit as I'm qualified to do electrics... (although as there is no load on the upstairs ring, it will suffice)

No! you need a local isolator for safety (20 amp Disconnector switch) next to outside unit.

20amp MCB in your board for each system, feed to disconnector, (2.5mm), then to your outside unit.

Then if its like my Daikin, three core and earth between outside and inside units. 1.5mm unless your run is over 10 metres when 2.5mm is best to avoid voltage drop.

You can use armoured cable, or PVC if protected agains physical damage and UV damage from the sun.

They are advertised as will run off a 13amp plug, they will but, not recommended.

    Cheers

Crikey! "DIY it-don't try it", looks like everyone's an AC hero, and we (not me personally) guys of the Ref & AC encourage it.

Better than a DIYer doing unsafe work I think.

DIYers wil Diy, I would rather that they do it safely.

But I would allways recommend they seek specialist advice on Both Fridge and electrical side. My experience is that expert help is not always forthcoming.

Also, Electricians are not fridge engineers, (and vice versa)

Sorry Frank, Probably badly worded, Advice here has been excellent. I meant physical help.

I am doing a bit of research on this subject myself.
Feedback I am getting from private buyers is Engineers refusing to do the work, or failing to attend as arranged.

I had a kind offer from a member here to connect test and vac for me, but unfortunately they are too far away.

I have other projects on as well, so not in a rush (despite the heat).

Re: Anyone fancy installing 2 AC units in Bedford?

I had 2 requests yesterday from people buying equipment and wanting it installing, the only problem is they think that they can get them installed for £50. Some one also told me yesterday that Focus DIY are now selling Fujitsu 9000 btu splits.

    Thats good to know Andy.

I did not mean to tar all with the same brush

The customer would be right to question either trade about their relevant qualifications, as per you would with a 'Corgi' installer.
