I'm told the City and Guilds course is the one to have as at the moment once you pass it you are covered for life.

Possibly try a search for Polar Pumps Tech Train or Cool Concerns

    Kind Regards Andy

we have CITB gas handling, brazing and electrics, but they need redoing every 4 years,i have city/guilds too but as the new gases and legislation changes so does the requirements making for constant upgrading, but thats what they tell me,dont take it as gold.

Covered for life, or until the law is changed to comply with the incomming F gas Regulations.

My advise is do the basics, brazing and handling, this will cover you should something happen and you end up in court.

However qualification have to change and by a lot to bring us in line with what is needed for F gas; remember it was one ammendment away from banning all HFC refrigerants R404a R407c and R410a.

    Kind Regards Andy

It is getting closer to the stage of 'no ticket, no gas' so anyone wanting to work on AC&R will need a CITB or C&G certificate.

The sooner the better I suppose chaps and chappesses.

Got mine over a month ago and have committed it all oblivion rather than memory, £300 to teach me how to handle gas and charge plant.... PLEASE.

You watch the reaction from Sainsburys when they have to pay £300 per person for mandatory checkout counter assistant C&G certs.
Takes a licking, keeps on ticking.

The US has been like this for some time now. I personally think it is a good thing.

And to think, we keep getting beat-up about the Kyoto and Montreal protocol's.

The epa thing is a farce, it is open book all you need to do is remember it for five seconds to get it, Now if they actualy tried it would be good. on the other hand I don't think it needs to be as complex as it is in Canada, what they need to do is breed the US EPA system and Canada full out course of 3Grand and come out with some thing that actualy forces the person to learn enough to be compitant.

On another point, we received a letter recently from a client advising that they had reviewed security proceedures and from now on, anyone wanting access to their premises, i.e. contractors, must be Criminal Record Checked.

Well, we looked into this and found that you cannot apply yourself (as a Company) unless you had at least 100 employees and wanted to CRC everyone and then at least 100 a month thereafter, so you had to use a third party Company that specialised in CRC checks.

What a rip off. £35 registration fee, £6.35 per application then £35 each application

Payback for the cost involved in CRC'ing our guys based on the one customer invoice ££'s was something like 7 years

Told him to stuff his contract

Couldn't you work it so they end up paying for it?

At the end of the day what the customer wants the customer can have but the customer also has to understand that he doesn't get something for nothing.

I've come across similar situations with ever increasing health and safety requirements. The health & safety representative that is either employed or a consultant for the company concerned is always cheerfully pointing out all of the procedures that we have to comply with.

I adopt the tactic of agreeing with him wholeheartedly which gets him smiling, then I spell out out to him that we are happy to comply with any of his requirements. (More smiles ).

Just as he is about to leave I add " Obviously you are going to end up paying for these extra requirements" and suddenly the smile dissapears

Don't get me wrong I'm all for increased control on refrigerant handling, health & safety etc.,etc. but someone has to pay for it. As the contractor why should we pick up the tab? Just pass it on to the customer.
