What is the typical ***** charge for a 5-ton split system? i.e. How many pounds (or Kg) would it take to refill the system after a leak? The unit in question is a Goodman.

As the previous member said you have to charge with regards to superheat and the outdoor ambient temp.,but
I will give you an estimate weight if it uses R407c then
it will be about 5 kg and .

Look at the side panel, there is a lable, it will tell you how much ***** required for a standard installation. But...If your line set is longer, or you added filter drier, you would need to add a little more to compensate for it...normally not much.

Best to call the pro. call the factory or local distributor for a list of qualify contractor.

and both are totally useless, you must tune it to the system, the cookie cutter method is shoty at best and a sign of truly bad workmanship, the only way to do it right is to tune it to the needs of the system, there IS NO SET AMOUNT !!

The unit charge will vary based on length of line set. You have to charge the unit based on superheat or subcooling (depending on your metering device.) Sight glasses are useful sometimes, but shouldn't be relied upon to tell you if the system is low on gas; one of our servicemen pulled 30# of R-22 from a system which had been overcharged by a maintenance engineer who was clearing the glass-the condenser was plugged solid, and he didn't have a guage on the high side to see what was going on. Make sure your coils are clean, filters are clean, belts tightened properly, etc. before you think about adding gas to a system.
