    R134A substitute ?? Help Pls.

If a compressor is supposed to run on R134a, is there a substitute refrigerant that will run as well? I have been reading stories of capillary lines plugging, etc, and have realized that some of my problems are with the 134a as well.

WTF? I am afraid that is impossible, unless you are using the wrong oil or the system has been horribly built.

I can how ever tell you where you can get R-134a in Canada with out a ticket. For the system what you will have to do is ensure it is throughly cleaned inside then use a good quality POE oil and a good quality F/D (Filter/Dryer) If all thees things have been observed then you may have gotten a contaminated refrigerant.

R507 but it will run the compressor hotter due to the increased pressure but it will also give you colder temps

Any R12 drop in will work, the ester oil will not be a problem with these.

R401a is the one I have used in the past

    Kind Regards Andy
If you can't fix it leave it that no one else will:rolleyes:

R134a is known for waxing the oil which in turn blocks capillaries. I prefer to use R49.

I tried r409a as substitute for r134a in reciprocating compressor at -10 celcius evaporating temp. it still runs well.

I, too, have experienced many R134a units that have clogged the cap tube. I backflush evap and condensor with liquid R406A through my reclaimer to dissolve the clog and recharge with AB oil and R401A or R401B.
