Does an evaporator have to be mounted vertically?

    Re: Evaporator Orientation

    Hi
Gas flow in DX SYSTEM ( frion or NH3) through
    Evaporators are Horizontal.

But in wet and flooded system is Vertically gas flow from bottom to top

In DX system with one line pipe you use it in vertical inlet gas from top with U in the end of evaporator.

So, in a traditional refrigeration circuit using r134a, it's ok?

    Yes
But your system should be clean and also with R134A you should use synthetic oil with right grade depending on your temperature
