    Question TXV Icing Up

    Hi All

I have two undercounter fridges, both sharing one condenser.

A few weeks ago, one of the fridges TXV started to freeze heavily. I allowed it to thaw, and restarted the fridge. Within 15 minutes it was a solid ball of ice again. I switched the fridge off and left as it wasn’t a desperate repair. Last week I was called to look at the other freezer on the same condenser and found the exact same thing happening.

I plan to reclaim tomorrow and reluctantly swap out both valves and driers, though it’s going to be a real pig of a job. The valve are preset and cannot be adjusted.

Anything I’m missing? I find it a tad too coincidental that both valves are misbehaving.

    Thanks in advance

    Short of gas?

    TXV strainers blocked?

    Filter/driers blocking, check temperatures?

    Airflows?

I would check to see if there was a large Temperature difference across the Drier first. This would explain everything.

    Thanks boys

Found the unit with only 400g of a 2kilo charge. Fingers crossed I’ll find and repair the leak tomorrow and fill her back up. See if that makes a difference.

Yep, correct charge could well make a difference.
