i have a general question. What happesn say when u have a leak and all the refrigerant leaks out and then u run the compressor.

What will happen? Will this damage the compressor

pending on how long it has been running, remember the compressor needs cool gas down the suction to keep the windings cool. i have known compressors to run and cycle on the klixton until an engineer has arrived but over a short time the compressor will be damaged

and yes normally the sight glass should be clear but you must attach your gauges to find out if the system is completely void of refrigerant

there should be a low pressure control to protect the compressor from such events.
