New LG CT24.NP2 split condenser very noisy

chaps we have just fitted a cassette system on the new R32 . Started up and by Christ the outdoor unit compressor is bloomin noisy. Looking at the internals the insulation of the compressor is very shoddy and half hearted. I measured 68 db my the unit and the client is saying it's not acceptable.

    Outdoor Unit
    Compressor Type

    Rotary

    Sound Level (H) - Cooling

    48 dB(A)

Far far louder than the old Fujitsu 7kw condenser which came out

I ma going to have to put additional sound proofing around the compressor and housing to try to reduce it as much as possible

however a thought occurred to me, is there a night mode I can put the system into to help. Can't find it in the manual

    TIA

    richard

Hi Richard, I've had some contact with back2space who has had exactly the same noise problems. LG said that they 'under-designed' the compressor insulation.

Perhaps contact him to get his comments.

Ok thanks. I looked at the compressor and ypy could clearly see parts of the body not insulated. I had already told the client i i tend to return to add extra sound deadening .
LG "its good but its not right"

only been fitting LG since daikin hiked their prices way above the compitition a 3.5kw wall mounted is 100 euro more than a fujitsu for example ie 25% dearer

nd there are silly stupid design flaws which if they had just thought another 5 minutes would have made their kit excellent
As it is i spend too much time shaking my head

I have fitted a lot of toshiba during my time in uk and i know all the makes avaiable and loads the uk have never heard of too but You need to understand the local market here before offering alternatives as its not just like the uk here availability and after sales is so different

Returned to the site and fitted 2 old jackets which has made a massive difference . We were amazed by how effective they were.

Sad to say it seems the koreans are still miles behind Japan for quality. They always seem to cut corners and be sneaky with what they produce

    Hi Richard.

Either LG have taken a dive in quality (if that was possible :-] ) or that's a dud unit. Even the cheap units here with the 'powered by Toshiba or Panasonic' are quiet, much like any of the main brands to be honest. These are all inverters though so I'm guessing yours is fixed speed?
Last fixed speed I looked at was a 407C LG a few months back and that wasn't overly noisy, just normal what you'd expect to be honest.
Sure you're on it, man of your calibre but just putting it out there that compressor not got any transit fixings still in place or a bolt/similar wedged under it?

    Cheers,
    Andy.

Fixed speed were banned in spain a few years back. Inverters only

Its possibly a dud but brand new and if backspace had issues then we are not alone. The level of compressor insulation is a joke but if on a roof it would probably not be questioned. This is inside so its really loud.i had thought about transit fixings etc but nope all clear.
Its obviously just cost cutting because as i say once we put extra insulation around it quietened it to an acceptable level. Just isnt right.

To be fair having installed as few 2.5 kw up to 10kw lg they are all noticeably louder than the daikin equivalents..

    Hey Richard,

Having exactly the same issues with an MU4R25 U40 - See below videos:

LG initially offered to supply a new compressor under warranty however I was not happy with this on a brand new unit. The previous unit only 2 years old was R410a and was the exact same model and capacity how ever this one one is R32 and noisy as hell.

LG have even been out and agreed there was an issue. They initially said that the insulation inside the casing (not the jacket some sound deadening material that is stuck to the panels inside) had been under designed. EVen though it was the same material as on the R410a equivalent. Then they came back and had been told the wrong information by the LG EU and that they were not aware of any issues on this particular model. It was one of the smaller outdoor units that had a recognised issue with the insulation.

Ours was much louder from 10m you could hardly hear yourself speak... the client complained so whilst we discussed it with LG, we wrapped the compressor with two old jackets from other old condensers and it quietened it round down to an acceptable level. We then had LG out who said "it's the fan noise" I told them no it's only this quiet because we have wrapped it properly. I didn't fancy taking it all out so they could hear it because if it never went back again as quiet I'd kick myself..As I said above you could actually see the compressor body with the insulation in place and the matl they wrapped it was like cheap carpet not sound deadening material ..There is no way they could have tested it and signed it off as 47db and kept the same jacket. I suspect they test it with one jacket to get the rating and manufacturer it with a cheaper version..

The reputation of integrity of LG just doesn't seem to get better. cheap Shysters . IMHO.

so what did they actually do about it?
