    Positive displacement

    Hi Friends,

I have a question. I read that scroll compressors are positive displacement compressors. What does it mean ? It means also we may have negative displacement compressors ??

    Sincerely yours.

    Re: Positive displacement

A 'non-positive displacement' compressor would be classified as a centrifugal type compressor as the energy is transferred by the rotating vanes into the refrigerant fluid.

'Positive displacement' implies that an amount of refrigerant is entrapped within the compressor parts and physically compressed by the machine. A piston compressor or pump is a prime example.
