Got an old searle ks cooler 3 fan and one motor is spinning in the wrong rotation it used to spin in the correct rotation,my electrical knowledge is ok but what would cause this to happen, going to change the motor tomorrow.

    Re: Single phase motor

Motor is not running, fan reverse rotation due to other fans sucking air through it.

    Re: Single phase motor

If the capacitor burnt, the motor will not get the "kick" to the right direction and the other fans suck air through the idle fan causing it to turn to the wrong direction. When it pulls enough speed' it starts runinng.

Check the capacitor before replacing the fan, the problem just might be there.

if the motor have the inter-change connection ,cw and ccw rotation ,direction can be changed after human interfering. if this is not the case you have to Check the capacitor and have it replaced with suitable one.

    Hi Cad
Treat yourself to a Supco Capacitor Tester from Dean& Wood it test the capacitor to see if it’s good bad or leaky and also measures it’s actual capacitance as against its rated value. Capacitors have a fairly short life and quickly lose their capacitance often due to poor quality . With a quick check to test a capacitor is in good or bad order can save a lot of problems . Many small pot compressors fail due to the start capacitor failing and the start windings burn out as the relay holds in . By checking the capacitor as against its rated capacitance can give you the opportunity to replace it before it fails with possible expensive consequences
