Restore Daikin iTouch Manager from back up.

    Hi,

I have a site where it seems that the two iTMs that monitor and control everything here have failed after a possibe power surge caused by the main distribution board they are fed from literally exploded.
Curiously the iTMs seemed to be ok for the next three days whilst they were running from a temporary supply extension lead, which they are still currenty fed from. Then after 3 days of working fine they lost all comms with all units. They are not communicating with the ac outdoor units or even the iTM Plus Adapters (ports) as the rx/tx lights are not illuminating and red alarm leds are. Everything has been powered off and had reset buttons pressed multiple times to no effect.

To check we've not lost comms through physical site factors such as cut wires, interferrance from new cabling etc I've connected my service checker to the F1 and F2 cables where they connect to their relevent terminals on the plus adapters and the checker can see and control all units as usual. I also connected an iTM borrowed from another site which works fine. Rx/tx leds light up, alarm led is off and all units can now be seen and controlled by this iTM.

Having been in contact with Daikin tech help throughout this process they confirm that this indicates that the iTMs have suffered some kind of damage and need to be replaced. I asked if there could be some kind of software corruption that's occurred that needs more than just a standard reboot to rectify of if they can be repaired. They said that it's so rare for them to fail that they don't have anything or anyone in place for that and on the extremely rare occurence of failure they just need to be replaced.

That's all fine but I'm still curious as to why they would have worked fine for 3 days after a significant and dramatic power supply issue and then both lose comms simultaneously after that. It also seems strange that they retain the details of all registered units including addresses but just can't communicate with them even though the comms network downstream from them has been proved to be ok. At £2.5k a pop I'd just like to be sure I've explored every avenue possible before we replace them.

Also I have over 900 rooms on these 2 iTMs. I've taken a backup onto a memory stick in the hope that I can just transfer the units details ie addresses, unit type icon, prohibition/limit settings and more crucially room number labels onto new iTMs if we end up changing them. The Daikin engineer I spoke to tried to talk me through transferring the backup onto the spare iTM I'd borrowed. The first step was to plug the memory stick into the usb socket then press the reset and monitor buttons simultaneously. This was apparently supposed to take us onto the next step but nothing happens other than a black screen and then the screen restarts as per a usual reset. Having not actually physically restored an iTM before he had no further help he could give. However he has sent me the iTM presetting software which he said is an easier way to commission a new iTM with a lot of units attached to it. I've still yet to figure out how this works.

Manually entering 900 plus individual unit labels and settings will be a massive job so it would be ideal to be able to just transfer the backup onto the new iTMs if we replace them.

Any insight on this would be great.

    Regards,

    Mark.

Re: Restore Daikin iTouch Manager from back up.

    UPDATE:

I've tried the ITM presetting software.Daikin help say that the backup taken from the old iTM needs to imported into the presetting software on a laptop, editted if required and then saved as in install file before it can be loaded onto another iTM. I've tried this multiple times and I can't get the presetting software to open the backup file. It simply won't work and the backup in int's existing state won't boot up on the iTM so it seems that this does seem to need converting but the software won't recognise it. Anyone had experience with using the iTM prestting tool before?

I would pass it over to a Daikin specialist like Sibby here or even DUK technical let them do it.
