    Honeywell have announced the development of a non flammable replacement for R410a.
    This is great news as R32 was a purely stop gap refrigerant with no actual commercial viability due to its A2L flammable rating.

    As a company we did not even consider R32 as an option and it was apparent that refrigerant manufacturers were going hell for leather to be the first to develop a low GWP non flammable refrigerant.


    I love the smell of Ammonia in the morning!

    Anyone know what its specific heat capacity is?

    It would be nice to know to compare it with water, NH3, CO2 and the existing care and the new Olphil type of refrigerants.

    We believe that the new refrigerant contains two components that users of R410A will be very familiar with – R32 and R125. However, the blend proportions are very different: R32 still makes up nearly 50% of the blend but the proportion of R125 is greatly reduced.


    The trifluoroiodomethane molecule

    "The key third component, and the main reason for the blends non-flammability, is trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I), a relatively new gas which has not previously been used in refrigerant blends. A fire suppressant, CF3I is thought to be being considered as a replacement for halon 1301"

    So we can expect it to be a 400 series or near azeotrope refrigerant then due to the blend.

    I suppose we'll have to wait and see what the temperature glide will be and what its TEWI factor is. Lets hope it can be topped off after a leak repair and doesn't need a fresh charge.
