    Refrigerant change

Hi have a customer with a freezer cabinet in his commercial kitchen, while doing a service check on the cabinets i noticed that a single door freezer cabinet had a note that it had been changed to r22 this was done many years ago,the makers spec says r404a the cabinet is working fine and given that the kitchen is very warm at the moment enough to say i am surprised, the question is can i service this machine ie remove the r22 if a compressor change is needed in the future or does the cabinet have to be scrapped,on another note this compressor runs very cool and i thought the compressor would be running warm any advise welcolmed

    Re: Refrigerant change

If you attach a manifold set to that unit then your next task is to remove the refrigerant for safe disposal. You may not just have a quick check of the running pressures.

As you say you will not be able to use R22 but you can recharge with a replacement refrigerant as long as it is an approved one.

Remember there may be a cost implication with the disposal of the R22.

As Brian says it is the refrigerant that would need to go not the freezer.
If in the future you have to do any work as long as it is cost effective
you can do any amount of repairs to it once you have removed the R22

    .

No matter where it goes there will be a cost.
HRP and Climate Centre in Minworth will take it.
Who's cylinder is it inside? That will be a factor
    for where it goes.

    Climate Center use A gas
    HRP use BOC
Dean & Wood use A Gas and National (I think).

The above will only take their own cylinders.
