    Hermetic compressors



    When replacing these what is the procedure regarding oil the reason i ask just replaced one on a k40 icemaker,changed the drier new electrics condensor fan motor vacced out leak checked the machine history is unknown correct compressor fitted and charged to makers spec it worked great for around a week in the workshop then failed siezed i guess when new is the correct charge of oil installed its a danfoss fr11 compressor.

    The oil charge is normally within the compressor.

    I've had larger compressors pump out some of their oil charge on repeated high pressure trips but not the smaller ones.

    This is strange.
    Have you replaced also the starting kit?
    There must be somthing wrong with the controls, oil is running in the system in very small quantities.

    New hermetic comp's are pre-charged and they have extra inside
    for lining the pipes on initial start up. If a comp has failed after
    a week and everything was done as you say, it is possible for
    new compressors to fail and you might just have been unlucky.
