Sounds like it has a Grasslin time clock which has worn out.

That’s what I thought and I replaced it with the defrost timer. It’s stays on defrost. Turn off then back on cools it until goes to defrost which I set it for every 4 hours for 10 min defrost however not terminate the defrost and back to cool just stays on defrost.

Sounds like something stupid like reversed live and neutral?
    Or a basic wiring fault.
Where power supplied to bring in the defrost contactor is not disconnecting the D/F contactor on timed completion.
Do you have a wiring diagram you could let us look at?
Is there a defrost temp termination probe on this unit.
    As I said.
If the first timed interval is pulling the D/F contactor in as expected.
Then you need to identify why the contactor is not disconnecting on timed completion?
Try disconnecting the heaters (If on Electrical Defrost) and initiate and observe a defrost cycle.

    Good Luck Grizzly

Basically the timer should stop the compressor, and should always be fed from a permanent live check that the clock is fed from permanent live the wiring seems to be the issue

    Hi Ozzie.
Which Grasslin controller do you have?

Does it have a Defrost Termination Stat fitted?
The controller may mention terminals for this?

Does it have a pump down , drain down and fan delay with the defrost or is it a basic timer?
It's just 10 min defrost sounds as if the could be a conflict in the timings.
6 defrosts at 10 mins just does not sound right to me.
Try extending the defrost interval to 20mins and reducing to 4 defrosts (6hrs).

I cannot believe 10 min defrosts are doing anything!
Other than maybe conflicting with other defrost settings.

I always start with the minimum number I feel I can get away with.
Without more info it is hard to second guess this one.
But as we are all saying so far, its either electrical or electro mechanical.
    Good luck.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the all info. I ll go back and check my wiring. As I said I don’t wire this stuff very often it might be my fault.
I spoken to easy cold tech. He said this unit has no heater bar so evap fans runs continuesly condenser stops 30-45 min for cooling. Natural defrost. No dt sensor and only RAT sensor on Elliwell. Please see old defrost timer which I replaced basic round timer.1038CADF-3734-4565-94E3-8A2E54ABB272.jpg8C168207-1885-48D4-AB09-FA8D7C1D971C.jpg

Nooo. That's the compressor delay timer, defrost timer is on the case but if you have an Elliwell it's all done from that instead.
Looks like the delay timer is wired up wrong somewhere. See if I can scribble a drawing later today.

    Hi Ozzie.
    Taters is spot on!
Just out of interest is this a chill room!
Because what we call off cycle defrosts (Which is what you appear to have?)

Are relevant for above ambient set points. Whereas I was assuming we were all talking about a sub freezing set point.

What temperature you operate at and the diff. Have a huge effect upon system efficiency.
    Once the wiring is confirmed.
we can look at the various control settings.

    Re: EasyCold display fridge info

    Back again Ozzie.
It's all starting to make sense now!
What we appear to have is a CHNT on off timer which stops the compressor and the fans stay running giving the basic ambient temp defrost.

Did the old Elliwell do just this or did it control a liquid line solenoid valve?
If you can remember the old controller details thing may become clearer?
Check Cad's point also its totally relevant.

    Re: EasyCold display fridge info

    Hi guys
Thanks for all input. This is display fridge in my local shop. Condenser feeds two indoor unit both works on 2 degree and separate elliwell controller. One of them has dairy and other has alcohol (love it keep it cold for my next trip). Up to today only dairy one was working and I was tried to find fault at condenser. Today I turn both unit on and same issue. That’s why I change the delay timer as well as contacter. Now alcohol fridge works fine after defrost however diary stuck on defrost again. That’s means, controller is faulty. I now need to change controller however I pressume there are settings I need to input for Elliwell. Can anyone confirm I’m on right track?

Does each cabinet have a solenoid valve to isolate refrigerant when set point has been reached

    Hi Ozzie
Post the controller details and we should be able to explain how to record the controller settings.
Then input them into the new controller.

Yes. It is. I think they are controlled by the Elliwell controller too.

Controller is Elliwell Id961. I just being to shop again and checked settings. Found parameters from web and only default settings being changed was defrost timing to 3 hours rather then 6 hours which I change it to 6 hours. Told to shop keeper to monitor it. If it’s same again by tomorrow. I have a Dixell controller which I’m gonna replace it. Again thanks for the everyone’s input. I ll update you guys.

    Re: EasyCold display fridge info

With the Elliwell controller, after a defrost it will still display DEF until it reaches setpoint, then it displays air temp. A power reset would start things from scratch so then air temp is displayed. There is a setting in the DIS folder to alter defrost display to air temp (which will rise on defrost so not normally used, air temp at start of defrost which will only update same as I previously mentioned and lastly just displaying DEF which is the common setting. Might be that is the issue.
    The delay timer working now?
    Cheers,
    Andy.

    Re: EasyCold display fridge info

Do i presume that the defrost is controlled by the elliwell, if so I set them with a 3 degree dif and just have the defrost display to show the cursor not def it confuses people that it's on defrost because it's the can take sometime to reach setpoint after a defrost cycle
