50 ac units, decommission and recomission
Evening all
I have been asked to quote to decommission and recomission 50 split units. 10 are r22 so i will give them a price for r453a.... i have read some where that a substitute refrigeranf is only good for a short term solution as it puts the r22 unit under more strain and decreases the life span of the compressor.... is this correct?.
Also what would you all charge to do each unit? ...

Re: 50 ac units, decommission and recomission
I've used mo99 and 417a number of times and seen nothing negative, or breakdowns that I'd attribute to it. Don't know about 453a - not used it.
As to what someone would charge for the job, hard to say without seeing the site / logistics of the job.Last edited by terminator; 19-09-2017 at 08:07 PM.

Re: 50 ac units, decommission and recomission
ahhh thats good to hear. Well basically its literally a big roof that has to be redone which is why im moving the condensers. They will be moved to one side of roof then re fitted at end.
So
Reclaim refrigerant/pump down where possible
lock off electrical isolator
Disconnect cables and pipe
Move unit
Come back 2 weeks later
Reconnect the wires and pipe
Pressure test for 1 hour
Vac system
Charge system
Commission systems.
I have a rough idea in my head but im not only one quoting for job so wanna make sure im not miles out

Re: 50 ac units, decommission and recomission
I'm sure you have it covered as you are talking about drop-ins but, no pump downs on R22 units, gas swap only.

Re: 50 ac units, decommission and recomission
Make sure that all 50 units are in full working order BEFORE you de-commission. If you don't and you find that some don't work properly when you re-commission, you will struggle to convince them that it was not your fault and you may end up having to repair at your own cost!!!

Re: 50 ac units, decommission and recomission
Don't forget to allow for the cost of the recovery cylinders and the possible cost of the destruction of the R22. Get the latest price for the drop-in refrigerant, as they are constantly changing.

Re: 50 ac units, decommission and recomission
Price it for what you think it will cost and how much you want to make. Don't lose any sleep if you don't get the job, the cheaper guy may be losing money on it....

Re: 50 ac units, decommission and recomission
Don't forget to allow for the pipework damage and mangled cables that you will find after the roofing contractor has finished with them.
Mention it in your quote as in "assuming that all disconnected pipes and cables are as left prior to the roofing works" etc. Take lots of dated photos.Brian, retired in Devon.
