    Digital Archives Question

I am in the process of acquisition and building a large digital technical documents and articles library, trade and industry based of course, my biggest issue seems at least at this point to be orginanization and indexing of the files. I am looking for some way to archive, catalog and index, either by title, topic or both and preferably with a search feature as well. Ideally this "program" would be able to be stored and accessed not only on my desktop system but on a remote server as well in case of the inevitable "crash", would hate to lose what I have accumulated thus far, much less in a year or two. Was hoping that some of the good folks here may have some experience with executing this sort of thing. Appreciate any input anyone has. Thanks!

This sounds like it could be achieved with Microsoft Access.

I don't like to recommend BG but this programme I find amazing for data base work. A powerful programme indeed

You have to look for a program 'Content Management'
I had the same idea some years ago where I wanted to build a database of alls sorts of refr related articles and manuals.
    Do once a search Google.
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I think the best program for this task is Greenstone Digital Library, from http://www.greenstone.org/cgi-bin/library. It is used by many libraries, mainly from New Zealand, so it does its job and it is open source. It can index all kinds of documents, including pdfs, docs, etc , it does have an index by keywords and it is user friendly. Personally, I skipped reading the documentation for it and use it directly. I have my own question here - does anybody have one of these ASHRAE documents: Design Essentials for Refrigerated Storage Facilities:

Successful Cool Storage Projects: From Planning to Operation:
    http://resourcecenter.ashrae.org/sto...oginid=5963853
Design Guide for Cool Thermal Storage
http://resourcecenter.ashrae.org/sto...age&method=and& ? Are they useful for designing a food cold storage facility?
