    Question Sabro compressor SAB89

I have serveral ammonia screw compressor SAB89 Electromotor with 630 KW.
    They are started by star-delta.
I would like to know is it logical to start the compressor by soft starter to reduce the initial power consumption.
(The oil pump is directly mounted to the screw.)
    Thanks

    I would say definately yes.

Equalization before start also helps it get away quicker.

Most machines had large hole in suction check valve for equalization, but sometimes caused oil to go up suction line when it turned off, so smaller hole drilled after larger hole about 8mm welded up & new hole about 3mm.

A full bypass on start up could also be used.
