    Invented hydraulic pipe benders for 1 3/8 - 15/8

Hi my name is Steven I'm a refrigeration engineer with my dad ran own business for 10 plus years . We've made a hydraulic pipe bender that can bend 1.3/8 and 1.5/8 pipe with ease and the tool is small and easy to use . Also hoping we can bend 2.1/8 pipe to just on with that . I'm thinking of patenting the idea would just like some feedback if any one has used hydraulic pipe benders or think there's a market for the tool because don't think it would cost to much to make. Any input would be appreciated thanks

There are so many hydraulic pipe benders out there already, what makes yours suitable for a patent application I wonder.

Mines a lot different to them and it's for copper there steal as it says on the info not suitable for copper pipe and the former sizes are not same as for copper pipe plus my benders don't push up with ram in middle as it would kink the pipe because we tried that u have to use guide with it and it doesn't even ripple the pipe . All ready spoke to my friend at Hrp refrigeration suppliers and he thinks it would do really well as there's no hydraulic pipe bender that they sell that can bend 1.3/8 1,5/8 and 2.1/8

Registration as patent take a long time and a lot of money.
Maybe you want to check with big tool company to buy it from you.
Chinese will copy it in no time. You will not be able to protect a patent around the world, very expensive.

Quite a limited choice for refrigeration pipe benders as the larger sizes seems you are stuck with the Hilmor style on the big yellow frame. That costs about £800 so if you can compete with that then I guess there would be some sort of market, don't think you can even hire them out.
Some VRF systems get up to the 1 1/8"+ so would be handy there, especially outdoors from my point of view.
Patents and the like I know nothing about except it costs a lot. Might be worth looking into licensing the design to a manufacturer instead like gets suggested on Dragons Den. Maybe Peter Jones might invest, his old man was an AC guy.

    Good luck!
    Andy.

Re: Invented hydraulic pipe benders for 1 3/8 - 15/8

    .

    Hello Steven

It's a small world, I know you and your dad, (I used to work with him).

Good quality pipe benders in that size would be usefull and I'm sure
if your dad is involved in the design, it will do the job.

To patent it, it has to have somthing that is unique, like the way the
hydrolics fit the formers or the way the pump works, otherwise it
will be almost impossible to protect.

There are benders for water pipes, be carefull they are different.

You have a few options, one is to protect it and produce it yourself
or another option is to licence it to somebody like Jayvac or Rothenberger
and let them pay you every time one is sold?

Pete at Polar Pumps has experience of designing a product and taking it
to market, he pops in here quite often. Maybe he could offer you some advice.

Anyway all the best and tell your dad I said Hi,
I'll have to pop round with a few cans of Guinness over Christmas.

    Regards
    Rob

Hey u no never no my girlfriend said I should go on dragons den ha Cheers mate yeh I no them Hilmor ones they were really hard to use and that's why we made these hydraulic ones we've used them loads on nearly every crop store Installation and there small ish so good for transportation . Think il go down the licensing root just need to make few phone calls to see what todo really appreciate your comments I made this thread to get some feedback of other refrigeration engineers and now starting to think it could work regards Steve

I did industrial and commercial refrigeration pipe fitting for 8 years.
We had a ratchet bender for the big sizes.

I don't think a hydraulic bender would be as quick.
