Chiller compressor oil level
Hi there,
I'm looking for some guidance as I'm replacing expansion valve on a Thermocold chiller with a Frascold recip compressor which has not been run for over a year as client did not want to spend.
Not having a problem with expansion valve replacement as such, but rather I have noticed the oil level in compressor is below sight glass (approx 1.5cm )
I recovered full charge from system so suspect the oil is in the system but GUESSING oil return problem due to faulty expansion valve?
Any suggestions from the experts appreciated, I'm thinking add oil to compressor and monitor level once system running and remove if necessary, but I do have to justify my actions!
Thanks for reading.

Re: Chiller compressor oil level
Of course top it up to level before starting then monitor if it does return then remove the excess

Re: Chiller compressor oil level
I would only top up to minimum operating level though, unless you plan to sit there watching the sight glass.
The oil always seems to return when your back is turned!I love the smell of Ammonia in the morning!
