Carrier a/c short ccling
Hi
I have 2 Carrier air conditioners installed last year and they werenot cooling enough. I had noticed that every time I started them, the unit were short cycling 3 or 4 times before start operating normally.
Recently the same technician came and added extra gas and added a dye to track any leaks. The units now are short cycling worst (operate for few seconds and stop) and I don't see any leak
I have posted a video taken few days ago
https://youtu.be/fG827G2k8Yc
Could you give some ideas on what might be creating the problem ?
Thaks

Unit is cycling on low pressure safety switch.
Needs leak testing prior to recharging.Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK

Re: Carrier a/c short ccling
Could it maybe be a blockage? suction line appearing low on charge, but unit short cycling on hp? If theres no leak that is?

Re: Carrier a/c short ccling
Thanks for your answers. I do suspect it is some sort of blockage. I noticed the technician was getting high pressure when trying to add refrigerant during last visit and had to allow some time to let it flow. He said it was due to high viscosity of the dye he was using to find leaks. He said it had some oil which was good for the compressor.
If this is a blockage, what would be the basic steps to fix it? Having same issue in both units makes me suspect of some error during installation. I haven't changed company to keep warranty but I'm loosing confidence on these guysLast edited by Baezf; 23-05-2016 at 09:10 PM.

You can get the same symptoms on High pressure switch when the switch is set for 'Auto reset' rather than manual reset.

Re: Carrier a/c short ccling
Don't let it run like that, cycling on and off will kill a compressor in no time, they should only start 10 times an hour.
Don't know what make compressors your units have, but copeland had a problem with a rust proofing chemical they used during manufacturing reacting once the system was running and blocking up the expansion valve, causing low suction pressures. To an uneducated technician a low suction pressure will look like a leak.... Just an idea.Mostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)

Re: Carrier a/c short ccling
Talk to your Carrier supplier, and get it sorted out under warranty, Carrier should send a competent service technician to fix it.

Find your expansion valve if it is freezing up strait away on start up then it is starving the condenser and you have moisture in the system. To fix this pump down install filter dryer and vac out
