    Capacity Calculation!!!

    hello gentlemen!!!..
I have a client looking for a solution to cool down 3 ton of water. he wants to cool down the water to around 12C when outside temp is around 50C. It s an outdoor pond where they have some fish. Also says when he runs his sytem he wants to see such temps in 30 mins..
Any idea about the capacity required for such an application??
or any techical documents i can go through to have an idea....

    thx....

Have you established at what temperature the water is at the start of the process?
As it is a pond do we assume there is no cover on the water.
Is this for an extended period of operation, a whole summer for example?
If so then one would presume that the water is not starting off at or near the ambient temperature you have quoted.

    hello scott,
well it s an outdoor pond(no cover) so starting temp would be around ambient since it wont be a contunious operation throughout summer as they transfer the fish to other areas from time to time.. yes this unit would run during summer as needed!!!

    appreciate your return

Break it down to manageable terms.
3 tonne is 3000kgs, divide by 1800 seconds per half hour = 1.66 litres per second through water chiller, specific heat of water is 4.186 kj/Kg, temp change 50' C minus 12' c delta T ' K is 38 'C
Sensible heat load Qs = flow rate x sensible heat x temperature change, = 265.2 Kws.
does not include solar gain on surface area and loses through structure and pump Kws.
Is this a fish farm application.

It is going to be a serious chiller that can handle entering water at +50' C . can only suggest an evaporative pre cooler if you have low humiity at high ambient temperature area.
If a fish farm applcation there other option if fish are going to be processed, rather than chilling whole tank volume.

    Indeed it is....
thank you all for all the feedback
