Going rate for AC Install Sub-Contractor?

    Hi Guys,

I'm an AC Install Engineer and have some work coming up in London. I live around 100 miles away further north so will be commuting daily. Was looking to gauge what the current going rate is on average generally for a day rate labour only?

I never pay engineer a going rate. I expect them to stay until the job is done

We have always paid subcontractors by quotations and not hourly rate as most subbies like to drag their feet while on hourly rates.

Normally base ours on a day rate, which would normally be for 10 hours.
If you are commuting 100 miles each way, that is going to seriously eat into the time that you spend on site. You might end up with only 5 hours on site, unless you take up local lodgings or loose out for your travelling time.
I would be reluctant to pay for 10 hours and only get 5 hours work on site, that could make you uncompetitive.
