getting work without references from last job

    Hi all

I work for a well established AC firm that is circling the drain , all down to the quite frankly baffling actions of the md the idiot has ruined a firm I have worked at for nearly 10 years , if I go to the owners of the firm I will mark my cards and probably not get a reference from the guy , how hard is it to get work without a reference , really I would be better off jumping ship but don't feel it's fair what the guy did

    Before resigning.
research for a position based on 3 months minimum trial period, so long as you have all the tickets and legal stuff in hand. If you can prove your effectiveness to another company where is the problem. If you cut the mustard and perform, not a problem. Alternative is branch out on your own as an independent and sub contractor, will definitely get you out of bed every morning wanting to work and pay the bills.

    .

References can only state facts by law.
If you are asked by a new company for a reference
then the old company can only state facts.

It is employment law and as long as you have not written
off your last 5 service vans then all they can say is
    true statements about you.

Time keeping, tidiness and such, they can't say they
don't like you and you are not trustworthy because they
can open themselves up for prosecution.

Also the reference can come from a supervisor or other
member of authority within the firm, like the sectary.

Good post Rob...but when asked for a reference an employer can refuse by law to provide one. If he decides to supply one then, as you say, it has to be truthful otherwise he can be in trouble.
