Daikin VRV II R22 model not cooling good as before
Hi guys (and gurls)!
I have one of old R22 VRV II units (made in 1996) to maintain, and I need service manual for reference (and to know how to start test mode)!
Model in question is outdoor unit RSXY8HJ7W1 and some indoor units are BYBS32DJW1
If anyone can help with these manuals, i would appreciate!Last edited by nike123; 30-07-2015 at 06:27 PM.

Re: Daikin VRV II R22 models service manual
I'm sure that I have something in the office covering the G & H series but it is not on PDF...it's a big fat old fashioned book lol
I'll have a look in the morning. Anything specific?

I saw your e-mail, but right now, I am more than exhausted. I will let you know tomorrow if that was of some help.
Anyhow, you got some virtual beer from me!

Re: Daikin VRV II R22 model not cooling good as before
Yesterday in the evening I was there and washed outdoor unit heat exchanger, since it was dirty as hell.
This morning I have measured pressures and temperatures of air on and off off outdoor unit heat exchanger.
Here is result:
mjerenje.jpg
Suction pressure 5,1 Barg (6,9°C)
Discharge pressure 21,5 Barg (56°C)
Air temperature on 31°C
Air temperature off 44°C
Suction pipe sweating!
Since I am not familiar with Daikin VRV, I am somewhat confused.
Is this high temperature of condensation or not?
Day before cleaning of condenser when outdoor temperature is 37°C, evaporation temperature was 13°C, and condensation temperature 57°C-58°C. Superheat only 1K and temperature difference of air on and off condenser was 3-4K then. Now it is 13K.
Is this condensation temperature normal for this unit?
It looked to me as inverter is on low frequency by that high suction pressure.
I suspecting to non-condensables and gas shortage, or someone has been there before me and charged wrong refrigerant,...., and so on.
With such high condensation temperature, I am reluctant to add more refrigerant even service manual suggest that if suction pressure is 4,5 to 5 bar or lower and temperature difference on indoors is lower than 8K than that is shortage of refrigerant.
I did not make measurement of temperature difference of air on indoor units but, judging from complaints like ("it was cooling much more few days ago"), i think that indoor units are not performing as they should.
How is condensation temperature controlled. There are two fans. One is 1 speed and second one is 2 speed. What is control logic there? At what temperature/pressure is switched on each?
Any advice how to proceed and what to look for?
There is no error on main remote controller (or any other) and U4 for unit no: 0 is displayed for short time when inspection button is pressed. I presume that is history entry from when I switched outdoor unit power supply OFF during washing.
Also, I did not found (on quick look) test function nowhere in manuals. Is there any?
I pressed twice inspection/test button but noting happens (except that U4 entry for no:0 unit is displayed for 10 seconds) at both occasions.
P.S. any table for calculating additional charge for piping?Last edited by nike123; 30-07-2015 at 10:51 PM.

Re: Daikin VRV II R22 model not cooling good as before
is this a 3 pipe or 2 pipe?- try stopping 20% of the indoors to see if diversity is affecting performance.
go on setting mode 41 on indoor remotes- hold bottom right button for 8 seconds to display setting mode 10 then press bottom right button again for setting 40 (last 10 fault codes) temp up to display 41
00 remote controller sensor
01 return air sensor
02 ,03 indoor coil sensor
test mode on indoor remote press bottom right button a few times to show test- will run for 20 mins, think its setting mode 2 on the outdoor (master unit if its twinned- green led on- flashes on slaves)
think ive got more vrv manuals- will e mail ya

Thanks IM!
2 pipe system!
What about high (to my taste) condensation temperature?Last edited by nike123; 30-07-2015 at 09:20 PM.

Re: Daikin VRV II R22 model not cooling good as before
It looks like this service training manual is for unit in question!
https://teachintegration.files.wordp...ing-manual.pdf
As I see at page 72 of this manual, target condensation temperature is 46°C for R22 units!
Also, As I suspected, this is not the case of shortage of refrigerant:Nedostatak plina.JPG
It looks to me that I need to check high pressure sensor and control of condenser fans.Last edited by nike123; 31-07-2015 at 07:14 PM.

I should have the manual as I have a lot of the old g h and K series plus the inverter training one.
On the way out more tomorrow

Re: Daikin VRV II R22 model not cooling good as before
Which of those 2 fans of outdoor unit is 2 speed one?
It looks to me that there is no change in speed of fans. By measuring speed of air at outlet, left fan (looking from side where PCB is) is at higher speed than right fan no matter what pressure is at condenser.
If right fan is 2 speed one, it could be that is stuck on low speed, and therefore high condensation pressure at full load!
I was there yesterday and take some measurements of pressures and temperatures when some of indoor units are switched off.
It is definitively some improvement on pressures and temperatures when load is lower.
First set of measurements with full load has looked like this:
Evaporation temperature fluctuating slowly 1.7°C to 8.2°C
Condensation temperature 58°C to 54°C
Outdoor air temperature 35°C
Condenser air off temperature 43°C
Superheat 2K
Subcooling not existent, pipe temperature at before filter drier showed temperature of 83°C!
Later, when I switched off half of indoor units I got these measurements:
Evaporation temperature 5,1°C
Condensation temperature 51°C
Outdoor air temperature 35°C
Condenser air off temperature 43°C
Superheat 2K
Subcooling 11K
By the words of customer, before they called me, this unit has satisfactory cooled at even higher ambient temperatures then that particular day (37-38°C outdoor).
I have concluded that unit is unable to reject heat at condenser for some reason. I previously cleaned condenser with some cleaning chemicals, but improvement is not significant.
I am going to take outdoor unit air volume measurements at full load to see if that is the main cause of problem!
