    Buffer tank



    Hi all,
    I want to design a chilled water buffer tank most of the books refer to vertical tanks but I'm looking for horizontal tank al tanks,can anyone give some technical documents of the same..books,websites anything ........

    The design of vertical buffer tank is usually related to space saving.
    I don't see any reason why you can't design an horizontal one.

    I would suggest you to design it round one and place it in a small [2%] slope towards the outlet valve to keep it clean.

    generally buffer storage vessels are designed to give average 15% chilled water capacity volume expressed as a thermal storage volume. Bare in mind the floor loadings if at top of a building, then include baffles for water surge effect as well. Generally cross flow for maximizing regeneration to heat source.
    There are formulas in " engineering tool box " google it. Vertical or horizontal earth quakes can be damaging with large volume vessels.
