Howden shaft seal replacement
For the first time in many many years, I replaced a shaft seal on a Howden XRV 127 where the cause of failure was obvious
usually the seals are in pristine order and have less than 500 running hours, so this was a nice change
This one has maybe 10 years on it, but it was a ***** system...

Re: Howden shaft seal replacement
Tyco, appears very dirty for a ***** system, maybe something else wrong as well!
Sometimes you can get localized heat generation in seal area, what the rest of the system look like?

Re: Howden shaft seal replacement
This was a bit tongue in cheek to all the shaft seals we have replaced that are in pristine shape after 500-100 hours on ammonia systems
This shaft seal has over 20.000 hours on it, it was on a Russian ship and they have just left it there because it's a ***** system and not ammonia, so it didn't smell when it started leaking-Cheers-
