    Ir compressed air dryer ts110

INGERSOL RAND COMPRESSED AIR DRYER MODEL TS110

The High Temperature thermostat (ST) of the above dryer trips (set at 120 degree centigrate ) and in the screen appears the indication St. (High Discharge Temperature).

The first action I took is to change the rotation of Copeland scroll compressor by reversing two of the three wires feeding the dryer, but the problem remain the same.

I recovered the refrigerant and charged it again the correct quantity of refrigerant (2,3Kg – R407C). But the problem is not solve.

The discharge pressure is not rise and the condenser fan does not start (set at 18Bar). The Current draw is substantially reduced compared to tabulated values.

The type of compressor used in the dryer is three-phase Copeland scroll compressor.

Do you have any idea what is the problem. Is compressor faulty?.

    Hi kaskiris
Scroll compressors are designed to only pump in one direction of rotation. By swapping 2 phases of the motor connections it is now most likely running but not pumping correctly. You need to fit guages and watch to see if the suction pressure falls and the discharge rises when the compressor starts, if not to need to rewire the compressor motor.
I would check to see if the condenser coil and the evaporator coils are clean and the fans are running, if OK then check to see what suction superheat the evaporator is running at and adjust the TEV if necessary (typical superheat 6-8DegK) Try to take a running log of the system pressures and temperatures around the system and we can try to help you further Best regards Glenn

    Hi Glen
    Thanks for your response.
The problem is not the wrong rotation. I checked it.
The dryer is equipped with capillary tube and Hot Gas by pass valve (HGP). The discharge pressure is not rise over 12bar. The suction pressure is 5 bar, which can be adjusted by HGP. What happen if the refrigerant filter is blocked?

Could your high temp thermostat can be faulty? Can you put another thermometer in the same point to see that the temp is actually 120C?

It sound that the dryer works ok. If the liquid drier is blocked, suction pressure will drop and discharge pressure will rise, you should have replaced it after you have recovered the refrigerant.

Disable the HGP and run the unit, you will probably find low suction pressure due to tev or dryer problems causing HGP to be energised all the time.

Air dryer should run without problems also when there is no air flow, thats why hgb should be energised under certain pressure which is not below freezing point.
TEV used on a dryer will always be just under the capacity and the HGB or unloading of the compressor [when possible] should complete the capacity when air flow is low.
