    Inverter AC split speed control

Is compressor speed controlled only in the condenser unit itself or is there some speed control wire coming from the indoor unit ?

Only from the control circuitry of the outdoor unit.

You haven't told us what brand you are looking at but for al the major manufacturers the indoor unit is telling the outdoor unit how much heating or cooling it needs and the outdoor unit will then look at the running conditions and calculate the optimum speed for the compressor to run at.

Thank you. It's a new inverter Samsung 9000 BTU unit. I thought the compressor speed was regulated according to the indoor temperature. So you mean the indoor unit only commands on/off ? How is it possible to control the compressor speed without indoor temperature reference ?

Because the outdoor unit monitors the state of the refrigerant flowing to and from the indoor unit.
