    Old Air Conditioner/Water Filter ?

Hi all, new guy here hoping for some advice.

I have no knowledge of home refrigeration, but have spent years working on farms with large cool rooms so get the idea.

My Brother has what I assume to be a quite old aircon that has lately seemed to lose efficiency.
I've cleaned the filter, but after that there's not much more I can find that I should do.

One thing I have noticed is what appears to me to be a water filter on a copper line to the condenser.
Between this and the unit itself is an indicator that atm is reading "dry"' and I'd imagine it's been years since the filter's been replaced.

Am I correct in assuming this means the filter is blocked ?

Also, is there anything else I should be looking at ?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys might be able to provide.
    Much appreciated

    Simon

Sounds like a sight glass and not a filter.

Take a picture and post it up here.

The copper line contains refrigerant NOT water.

'Dry' means there isn't any moisture in the refrigerant which is a good thing.

Are there any bubbles in that sight glass?
