Panasonic multi split solid ice in heating

    Hi guys
Got a quad 27 with full icing and won't do a defrost.
No gas leaks line sets within limits.
    Ok till ambient now 0oc.
Says will do a defrost every 4 5 mins or hitting -6oc.
    All frozen bar small section.
Going back Monday to weigh out refrigerant and weigh in new.
    Could it be undersized ?
Going to speak to panasonic on Monday but any help much appreciated.
It's xmas and want to get it sorted for customer.

    .

I don't know much about the make you are talking about
but if it is freezing up you need to check if it is defrosting.

If it is defrosting, then how often and for how long?

If it is not defrosting then why?

Look to the obvious before you start pulling out the refrigerant.

before checking gas charge have you ran the unit in cooling to check rv actually operates?, if energised for heating - unplug it off the board

Is the drain from the condenser unit clear?

A build up of ice at the bottom will climb the coil if it can't defrost properly.

    It doesn't do a defrost.
Had it on cooling and it ran fine.
Drain is clear so don't know why it won't do a defrost.

Pulled 2.6kg of refrigerant out today.
    Should have been 3.4kg.
Vacced and leak tested on instalation.
    Leak tested last week.
    Vacced again today.
Top coil was not freezing so was not able to hit defrost temperatures.
Thought it would still defrost due to accumulated time and ambient.
Can only think was short of refrigerant in manufacturing.
