    UPS Room AC Calculation

    Hi All,

I have to calculate cooling load for a room (43.0 m2) contains 1 UPS of 200 kVA and 88 blocks of Battery.

How to calculate load for these?

    Please help.
    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,

    Daun

    Re: UPS Room AC Calculation

First question is how much power in to the UPS-room and how much power out from room

difference is heat need cooling away. ie. you must know efficient of UPS in expected load level (or max load)

And this can be huge difference if UPS is in line-UPS (AC-converter and rectifier always running and take whole load continuously ) or stand-by, fast switching UPS witch smaller low power rectifier for charge and floating charge batteries.

And also possible have demand AC-unit in room needs classified EX-prof if battery bank is big as 250 kVA capcity

Lead batteries can give hydrogen, oxygen and acid mist if not proper charging in fault situation and not good if open relay in AC unit ignite this blend and detonate (super sonic detonate is very worse than explosion (explosion in people eye means mostly deflagration -> subsonic combustion propagation trought heat transfer, hydrogen (and acetylene) in air is very few common substance can going from deflagration as 2.7 m/s (for hydrogen) to detonate in 2000 m/s inside room or tunnel and destroy everything in this way including collapse whole buildings.

In my job we have incident as big battery central running away and make lot of hydrogen and after alarm result emptying whole subway station and house around and close down electrical power for whole blocks from outside and none of fire brigade or rescue people setting his foot inside before is very, very sure is hydrogen level going down to safe level, checked with robot/remote controlled machine...

To remember - this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSbohasKM_Q are for leakage acetylene in van and blow up in detonation (with death for owner couple of meters outside of van after trying unlock van with key remote control...) - look on flying picture, is easy imagine how Van going to almost balloon before surface crack up and debris flying around in very very short time - and acetylene is nice version of detonation - hydrogen is worse... and result in picture is only for few cubik meter of pre blended acetylene with air in van...

HC-refrigerant as R600a, R290, R1270 can newer make this type of detonation - is burning way to slow for that.
