Problem with freezer fan.
I am looking at a upright freezer for a mate.
it is a Westinghouse 380 L frost free.
It is cooling at the bottom where the evap is , but as it has a duct in the back with a JRM fam motor , to distribute cold air from evap to top of freezer.
This fan does not run has 240 V in and 240 V out
there is a red alarm light on the front indicating an alarm has gone off.
For this freezer to defrost , i think it works on a klixon.
What could be the causes for the fan not to run.Last edited by fridg; 12-04-2006 at 04:01 AM.
The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.

Re: Problem with freezer fan.
Is there voltage at the motor? Can the fan be manually turned? Is the motor fine? Are the caps (if any) fine?

Re: Problem with freezer fan.
Yes 240 V both sides of motor.
The motor can be turned (not ceased)
Resistance of motor is 240 ohms
No caps. The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.

now i beleive that the motor have burning coil
no other cause i can figer out

Check across the motor and see what you get.
If your getting 240v to earth BOTH sides the door switch is probably switching a nuetral and is open.Last edited by Temprite; 11-04-2006 at 09:56 AM.

There is no door switch on the freezer , sounds funny but i had a real good look for one.The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.

Dogma
I just edited my previous post.
If you are getting 240v to earth both sides of the motor you are not getting a nuetral to the motor. In other words there is a switch open probably.(Door switch, defrost timer).
Check across the motor.

From my initial tests with the compressor running , the evap fan should be on too , as there is no switch inside the cabinet. The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.

Re: Problem with freezer fan.
G'day fridg.
Fan is getting its nuetral through the defrost heater.
Unplug heater and check resistance if open circuited fan will not be able to get nuetral.
Same with klixon it may be staying open.
But if your gas charge is low the klixon will stay open.
Alternatively
Put one side of meter on fan motor and check voltage to klixon, then heater and when you get 240v you then know that you now have a nuetral and you will be able to determine where the break is.

Re: Problem with freezer fan.
Ok installed the new fan motor
The fan does not run when in circut with the heater element and the heater switch.
when i take these out of the circut , and put the fan in the circut before the heater it runs.
Now i have been told by my supply house that this fan will not run until the evap coil is down to temp.
So i have been forced to wait 24 hrs.
Also my guys on the inside have told me never touch a ******* domestic , run away.
I am an apprentice at a large manufacturing firm so the only experience i get on stuff is on the side.
But now i have to look at another domestic freezer with the same problem i think , no evap fan.
And the inside guys quote keeps running through my head "never touch a ******* domestic"The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.

Re: Problem with freezer fan.
Ok here is the story
The first freezer i replaced the evap fan motor , and left for 24 hrs to pull down , has come back to life and is freezing like a true champion.
It was a faulty evap fan motor.
Now on the second freezer
My tests indicated to me that the defrost terminator (klixon) was faulty
went to my supply house picked up a similar terminator
have gone back to job to install , decided to check main lead for insulation faults , well blow me down it is failing now.
Checked compressor , now this puppy has ceased because it was turned off over night.
And the quote returns "never touch a ******* domestic"Last edited by fridg; 13-04-2006 at 02:13 AM.
