    plate chiller refrigerant recovery

Hi guys ,Have to recover charge out of a small plate water chiller (14kgs) to repair a leak.System has no receiver and nowhere to recover liquid directly .Water will be running through exchanger at about 20c.Just still a bit worried about freezing in plate .Can any of you guys that have done this regularly offer any advice.

    Re: plate chiller refrigerant recovery

Why should the refrigerant recovery cause any problems?

It is being removed from the system, not flowing around the system.

Its a plate chiller , there will be liquid trapped in the plate boiling off .The question im kinda asking is if the water is running through the system is ok to just recover full out or will i have to recover down to the freezing point and stop and let the liquid boil off above freezing point.

youve got a constant heat load, so no issues- if you wanted can you isolate the plate (water side) and drain it if your really worried- or disconnect the compressor, power up the chiller and moniter the flow ,return water temps

If it has not been said already, keep the 20 deg C water flowing at all times & no problems if possible.

This is what im looking for .The machine is a cooling system on a laser lathe . If i pull the charge quick when theres 20c water has anybody seen ice to form in the exchanger.

Only if you do not keep water circulating

Also be careful when charging the system back up, till its above 0c saturation pressure.
Mostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)
