Whirlpool K40 ice machine
I recently purchased a second hand k40 ice machine. There is no problem with ice production but the machine lets a lot of water out through the drain after every batch of ice. Is this normal? It is a waste of water.

Re: Whirlpool K40 ice machine
yep it will fill and drain for about 5 mins-until defrost is terminated- you can throttle the flow via the ball fix or appliance tap to reduce the wastage

Re: Whirlpool K40 ice machine
Just check that the water fill valve has not been changed for one without the ristrictor in the inlet, take it off and look in the tube not the 3/4 threaded end the tube that goes into the tank, it is visible through the end of the valve.
You will get water flow during harvest as per the other post but is is worth checking, especially if your water is metered !Location, United Kingdom

Re: Whirlpool K40 ice machine
Thank you very much, this worked perfectly. Throttled it down to waisting 2 litres per hour - with which I am happy
