It's been the best part of 20 years since I had to do something like you're doing.

I've forgotten most of it .... as time goes on you delegate these things...lol.

I'm sure you'll get the answers from someone on here.

Best of luck and sorry I can't be more help right now.
If it was easy everyone would do it.

    Re: Help Sos ..........

    1. Are we talking cooking oils or machine oils, or engine oils or even massage oils ?? A little more info would be useful here.

    2. Selction criterea could be:-

Is it for a fan shaft bearing?
Is it to keep something cool as well as lubricated?
Does it have to stand high temperatures?
Does it have to withstand very low temperatures?
Does it have to be waterproof?
Does it have to mix with another product?

    and so on.

    Any help?

Mineral oils are used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems that utilize chlorinated refrigerants and I think ammonia systems. AlkylBenzene oils are recommended for the trinary blends that have only one component that is a chlorinated refrigerant. Polyolester oil is used in systems with HFC's that have no chlorine in them.

The viscosities may change also depending on the applications. Here is a link if your question is regarding refrigeration oils http://www.copeland-corp.com/co/images/17-1248.pdf

Mineral oil is acceptable for ammonia systems as long as the pour point is sufficient for the evaporating temperature. In some applications a partially synthetic oil is also used with great success.
