Compressor Burn Out Help
I have a 3~ Tecumseh compressor R404a.
HP 12 Bar, a bit low
LP 6 bar, a bit high
Compressor appears to be pumping and sounds OK.
However, oil and refrigerant stink like a burn out. Expansion valve filter is stained black but not blocked, maybe partially blocked but you can still see light through it.
Filter drier removed and can be blown through !
However there's very little cooling coming back from the evaporator, which appears to be starved, SH not measured but obviously very high.
Refrigerant has been weighed, no signs of leaks, charge OK, has a receiver.
Its an ice cream display counter, set point -14c.
I have removed compressor and drained some of the oil, it's clear, smells acidic though.
I'm fairly sure the compressor has had it but the pressures are confusing the hell out of me, any ideas whats going on anyone?
Haven't checked gauges for a while...
Thanks

Re: Compressor Burn Out Help
Unless the 6 bar lp is a misprint i would be pretty sure your compressor valves are goosed

Re: Compressor Burn Out Help
Your refrigerant is dead. It has broken down over time for one reason or another.
Running a compressor with a high discharge temperature is one way.To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.

Re: Compressor Burn Out Help
R404A 600kpa= 4.4degC so maybe system was off for a day or two when pressures were measured, or something crazy like that.
Maybe use it for milk instead of ice cream
