compressor problem with Haier mini split
Hi
today i get a call from customer
with this story
he said before 2 months his Haier R22 24000 BTU mini split stopped working
so after calling a technician
who brought a new rotary compressor which was Toshiba ph400
similar to the burn out one type and the replaced it
ok
after installing it the compressor and charging it damaged directly
by starting drawing about 50-60 amp
so the technician brought another compressor
which was LG qp407
then charged it
he installed with these reading
12 amp drawing
and it cooled for about 1/2 hour then overloaded
he called me today
i ran the unit
attached my manifold gauge to suction line valve
the pressure when unit was off
= 150 psi
once unit started
the pressure dropped to 0 then raised to 30 psi
then dropped to zero
compressor amp draw = 7 amp
with liquid line frozen
what is the cause
low charge or blockage in system

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
Silly question but are the new compressors exact replacements?
Why was the first one pulling 50-60 amps? Was the voltage correct or was this low?
If the second compressor is indeed a direct replacement and the suction pressure is dropping to 0psi and then up to 30psi then it sounds as though you have a restriction somewhere, possibly expansion device?
Personally if it was me, then I'd look up the specs of the compressor and see what current the motor should be pulling under certain conditions and go from there. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
yes both compressor were exact replacement
OK about the restriction
its possible if not the capillary tube
it may be the indoor unit clogged

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
strainers clogged with crap or capillary if no elec exp valve, check your high side pressure.
weigh out the gas thats in it and compare it to the name plateLast edited by install monkey; 22-05-2014 at 08:29 PM.

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
its fixed type expansion valve
capillary tube
ok there is no service valve on high side pressure
just on low side

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
today i opened the outdoor unit
i found these restriction and filter
i think of removing the restriction and the short capillary beside it and replacing the filter
did that will decrease the efficiency or not

page 75- shows piping diagram- check valve (1 way flow) in heating mode the capillary is used

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
ok
thank u
i cut the the cap tube end
as marked in photo
then i started the compressor
the air pressure was very strong

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
below your red arrow is a strainer which goes to the liq line- cut it out and look through it

Re: compressor problem with Haier mini split
i cut out the filter below arrow
it seems clean
i removed the check valve and capillary beside it
then i used a tube of same size of the check valve + filter
and replaced the filter before liquid line also
