Re: Insulation resistance tester
Had a cheap one, if you tested a compressor that was ok, it used to charge up the windings like a capacitor and i'd get a shock when i put the wires back on, i think the more expensive meters discharge and voltage after testing. Got a Megger now and happy with it.
Mostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)

Re: Insulation resistance tester
Got a cheap one myself from Ebay. An RS badged model which looked much like my old Megger.
£34, seems to works alright and came with new leads!
Jon's meter on you tube is the daddy. Got one on my wish list but don't expect to get it anytime soon, kids need new shoes for starters!Health and safety first..........unless I'm in a hurry.

MEGGER_BMM2500.JPG
dat my bad boy- 250,500,1000v also has a lock function so you can continuously zap something or someone, remember trying to zap a plumber and the weirdo could hold the leads no problems - andy get the posh megger- your kids will still hate you either if u get em nike air max or flip flops! haha

Re: Insulation resistance tester
you can file the ends down to get them on the back of the plug- the only way you get them down the actual pins is to wrap a paperclip around the test leads and tape it- i can bodge with the best of em
