    How much liquid?

    Hey all,

on Friday a tech charged a AC system with 15kg of 410a . He charged in liquid straight into the suction and discharge of a cope land scroll compressor.. The compressor doesn't have a crankcase heater. We have left the comp off all weekend. What percentage of liquid / vapour can we expect in a system like this.i realise it will depend on the saturation/ ambient condition. The system doesn't pump down when it cycles off any way so even under normal running conditions I would expect the refrigerant to migrate to the colder outdoor unit. Should we have any worries a bout starting this compressor on Monday?

if your charging a system, its unusual to get the full charge in without running the system, as for firing it up on monday it will be alright

Turn it on, if sounds funny turn it off again and wait a bit before turning back on.
Mostly found in Oxfordshire, UK :)

    .

As said above it should be alright.
You say it does not pump down so it will be in the same condition
it would be if the compressor cycled off for what ever reason.

You could gently torch the side of the compressor and feel the level of liquid in it just for fun. If it is full of liquid, heat it for awhile. Then fire it up, shut it off, wait then do it again. It will be ok. When scrolls first came out, they did not put heaters on any of them, saying it could pump rocks. Then they started putting heaters on.

    Hi Drew.
Irrespective if it is a 1 Kw system or a 1 mega watt system, fit a sump heater to the compressor.
