Daikin screw chiller with burst evaporator
Hi All,
We were asked to look at the following Daikin screw chiller, EWAD760C-XSC01. We found the system full with water, so one or more of the tubes is possibly leaking. Details on the evaporator refer it to a McQuay evaporator, 40271111.
In the past we have repaired Carrier tubes with Elliot plugs (brass pin & plug). The problem we have is trying to find the tube size. I have searched manuals to no avail and the local Daikin dealer has informed us that the tube specs is "proprietary information".
Would anyone have details of the tube specs/size for this chiller?
Thanks in advance,
F

Re: Daikin screw chiller with burst evaporator
As it's already wet you might as well open it and measure the tubes, that way there won't be any mistake.

Re: Daikin screw chiller with burst evaporator
Hi Brian/Goshen,
I was hoping that I would only have to give the customer one quotation to carry out the total repairs, instead of a quotation to reclaim the 2nd circuit, remove end-plates, etc, and then supply a 2nd quotation to repair.
I guess that we will have to measure it up then.
Thanks again for your replies,
Fintan

Understand your reasoning Fintan but it is out of your hands if the manufacturers won't give you the information. Let the customer know why your hands are tied.

Re: Daikin screw chiller with burst evaporator
if the plugs weren't expensive i'd order a selection of sizes and sealant, used to get wedge type which cover a range of diameters, not sure of the supplier though. only tear down manual i could find:
http://lit.daikinapplied.com/bizlit/...ts/7000066.pdf
I'd go with Brian though if above not possible, quote to strip and isolate leaks, remember if coil is crushed then repair may not be possible, i wouldn't quote repair until i knew what damage was.Mostly found in the southern part of this green and pleasant land.

Re: Daikin screw chiller with burst evaporator
Thanks again for the replies and the link to the manual.
On checking the water side, pieces of metal slag were found in the evaporator and between the pipes. There was no filter fitted to the system and this is how the leaks occurred. Our customer is going to chase the installer for a new evaporator.
Thanks again,
Fintan
