7189 is the newest refrigeration course from city and guilds, the course is only 2 years old and by next year nobody will be teaching 7189. at least thats what i was told. so best to study the new course.

also for those studying 7189 level 2. they do not need to do the F-gas separately as the the f-gas is built with in the diploma so by the time you finish 7189 level 2. you will have level 2 in refrigeration and air-condition plus f-gas in one diploma. also all colleges have stopped teaching NVQ level 2 as its all City and Guilds 7189

colleges have not stopped teaching 6187, also Fgas is done with 6187 and 7189 but that said i already hold cat 1 so that doesn't have any baring, the difference between course's is that 6187 is the NVQ which everyone is used to and 7189 is a diploma with no onsite verification, and since im about to finish 6187 there would be no sense in swapping to 7189...

    Re: C&G NVQ 6187 Level 3 ???

i searched it up and yes, college's are still teaching the 6187, i just got told by college of north west london that 6187 will not long be tough anywhere and will be replaced by 7189.

But The City & Guilds 6087 NVQ in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Mechanical Engineering Services) and 6127 Technical Certificate/RVQ have being withdrawn for new entrants from September 2012

there is no point in you switching to 7189 since your finishing soon.

I myself have done the 7189 in college of north west London last year. there is no site verification as its all done in the workshop. we had to do a defrost wiring, current and potential relay, and also a full cold room and air conditioning installation. and the f-gas on the diploma is the new f-gas 209/509. its not a replacement its just a different fgas that goes with the diploma.

    .
    Don't confuse your course's.

6127 technical certificate & 6087 NVQ have been replaced by 6187.
The 6187 is valid and will be valid for many years to come.

The 7189 is a Diploma qualification and has no real practical element.

Andy, Paul Singh is a training consultant in the West Midlands.
