Re: practical way of removing air in system
What refrigerant are we talking about, if ***** based, recover system charge , evacuate as well as find the leak. And start again with new refrigerant charge.
If ammonia, do a high side purge , then find the leak and repair, because the problem will only re-occur.

OR buy an automatic air purger. Please note that the water vapor will stay mixed with the ammonia and will not be purged. Water in the system is not good to the plant. There is also automatic machines to remove water from the system.
To make progress is never good enough, I want to do better and better and better

Re: practical way of removing air in system
Big or small system? What kind of compressor? With service valves on the compressor itselves?
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
