    134a expansion valve question

what will be the outcome if an 134a expansion valve had been used to a r22 refrigeration system?

    thanks!

    Nice intro.
Why, have you tried this or was the right valve not in stock?
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

The outcome would be that compressor woud be unhapy and close to death.

    Dont try that,

    Re: 134a expansion valve question

The valve doesn't really differentiate between refrigerants. But a particular valve will be rated at different tonnages or capacities that are tested by the manufacturer. For example, a 1 ton valve with R22 might become a 1/2 ton valve with R134a. R22 removes a lot more heat as one pound boils, compared to 134a. Thus, a one-ton R22 valve will have a smaller orifice than a one-ton 134a valve. Depending on the particular circumstance, you could likely wind up with an oversized valve, by at least 33%.

But the power head DOES differentiate between refrigerants. And the power head will not exert sufficient pressure to operate correctly. You have a chance of changing powerheads to make the oversized valve work properly, depending upon the valve's original range (for example, you are working with an already-undersized 134a valve), but a small chance of making it work with a 134a powerhead.

Oh! Your original question just came back into mind.

You will overfeed liquid to the compressor.
