Filter dryer installation vertically or horizontally ?
hi every one
as u know most of refrigerators come with filter dryer installed vertically
once it been repaired bcoz of leakage or blockage etc...
the technician here install the filter dryer horizontally
they assume that if the filter dryer installed vertically that the contaminant will collect in the base of the filter and will lead to blockage of the system gradually by years
is that correct
?

Re: Filter dryer installation vertically or horizontally ?
On capillary line systems which connect direct with the drier they are mounted vertically to aid with the generation of a liquid seal at the start of the cap line.
There is a coarse seive to hold back the filter material but if the filter starts breaking down then nothing much will stop the 'dust' from moving bthrough the system.Last edited by Brian_UK; 05-12-2013 at 10:49 PM.

Re: Filter dryer installation vertically or horizontally ?
Hi Kefah
I was always taught to install the small copper driers as Brian has said vertically or at least at 45o with the outlet at the bottom. This would allow the drier to act like a small receiver so the capillary was always full of liquid.
The problem with putting it in the horizontal is that if the system was charged by weight then it will probably be showing signs of being undercharged because there will be gas and liquid going to the evap instead of liquid only.
Hope this helps
